The online gambling industry may be absolutely thriving in the UK and the rest of Europe, but that’s not to say that the same is happening in the USA.  Online gambling has been illegal in most of the United States for years, and it is only just starting to become legalised in certain states.  Two other states currently allow online gambling, and New Jersey is likely to be the third.  It is expected that online casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey, will be launching around November 2014.

Before the online casinos finally go live, there will be a five day trial run, where all of the systems run by the twelve Jersey casinos will be tested.  The test run has been described as a “soft play” period by the Gaming Enforcement Division in NJ.  If all goes to plan during this period, the online casinos should be full steam ahead.

In order to be permitted to play in the New Jersey online casinos, players must be physically located within the state boundaries.  If this actually goes through, New Jersey will become the third US state to legalise online gambling, after Delaware and Nevada.

CEO of Trump Entertainment, Robert Griffin, said “I think this is going to be a significant revenue stream.  It has the potential to make up 20 per cent of our revenue.”  He went on to point out that that it has not been explained how the trialists for the test scheme will be selected.  It would have to be a significant enough amount to effectively test the new system.

New Source of Revenue

Online gambling is going to be allowed to give some of the more struggling casinos additional revenue streams, although many have expressed the concern that much of the business to their casinos will be replaced by online players.  The overall casino revenue in Atlantic City has plummeted over the past seven years, from a massive £5.2billion in 2006, all the way down to just over $3 billion in 2012.

Partnering

The New Jersey casinos have been partnering up with online gambling firms in preparation for the move.  The Tropicana Casino and Resort has teamed up with Gamesys and all of the casinos under the Caesars Entertainment parent group *(Caesars Atlantic City, Bally’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City and Showboat Casino Hotel) have partnered with 888 Holdings. Also check out the cool and exciting 88 casino site, click here
