The inaugural Global Gaming Awards ceremony was held on 29th September 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has been hailed a huge success in the industry.
The ceremony is the first of its kind to have incorporated both the online and offline gaming and gambling industries together for one huge recognition. It was fitting that the inaugural ceremony should take place in the casino capital of the world then, in the Venetian Palazzo Congress Centre in the heart of the legendary Las Vegas.
In the first celebration, awards were given out for 12 different categories and were judged based on the achievements of the company over the last 12 months. The judging panel was made up of a team of 50 industry leaders, and needless to say competition was tough for them in this inaugural ceremony.
MGM Resorts topped the bill for casino operators with 2 awards, one for Responsible Business of the Year and one for Land Based Operator of the Year. Jim Murren, the Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts gracefully accepted the accolades, expressing his delight at the recognition for the brand. He believes the award only further demonstrates that MGM Resorts provides guests with the highest quality, luxurious experiences whilst taking their guests and needs into consideration. Murren also commented on the Responsible Business award praising the brands work in diversity and community engagement. The brand’s M Life programme also received the award for Customer Loyalty Programme of the Year, further proving the brand’s focus and commitment to its customers.
GTECH was hot on the heels of MGM Resorts though, leading the way in the software and development department by picking up two awards of their own. The first achievement of the night was one award for Digital Industry Supplier of the Year, whilst they later picked up another for Land Based Gaming Innovator. GTECH’s senior VP believes the former award was due to the company’s focus on providing customers with the ideal solutions in an ever-evolving market. The latter was given thanks to GTECH’s novelty production ‘Action Jackpots’, which offers players four different progressive links inside the one single machine.
Other winners on the night included top names like 888, Aristocrat, Microgaming, IGT and Net Entertainment who between them beat 120 nominees to claim their respective accolades. The awards ceremony didn’t just focus on operators, but rather also included digital partners and developers, with an individual recognition award also given out for the Executive of the Year. This was scooped by Denise Coates of Bet 365.
The Global Gaming Awards has been billed as the world’s biggest casino industry awards avent, and was made possible thanks to hosts GamblingInsider, the American Gaming Association, the Global Gaming Expo and Reed Exhibitions and sponsors the NYX Gaming Group. This inaugural ceremony seen all aspects of the casino industry come together in celebration, including land based and online casino representatives, games developers, affiliates, auditors and regulatory bodies. Hopefully we will see the ceremony again next year, celebrating another 12 months of hard work and innovation in the industry, as it becomes a permanent fixture in the gaming and gambling calendar.
